SC4 student awarded scholarships to University of Detroit Mercy

St. Clair County Community College student Teresa Corkins of Kenockee Township has received a scholarship from the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and a grant from the University of Detroit Mercy to attend the university this fall.

Corkins plans to transfer to the university to study engineering. The scholarship and grant will pay for all tuition costs while she pursues her bachelor’s degree. She is planning on a career in the alternative energy field.

“I am so pleased, I couldn’t even explain it,” she said.

Corkins has been active at SC4. In April, she was awarded an SC4 Faculty Memorial Award. The award is given annually to students who are considered by faculty to provide an outstanding example of the qualities expected in a college student.

Corkins also tutors and is a member of the Lambda Mu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at SC4.
