Use webcams to watch SC4 campus construction projects

St. Clair County Community College has installed two interactive webcams on campus buildings to provide live viewing of SC4’s summer construction projects.

Users can control the cameras, panning and zooming them to see progress. The cameras are available at www.sc4.edu/webcams.

SC4 has several projects ongoing this summer:
  • North Building — A geothermal system is being installed to replace the heating, ventilation and cooling system for the building. Through the geothermal system, water will be pumped from the North Building to wells beneath the College Center parking lot. During the summer, warm water heated from the building will be cooled by the earth. During the winter, cooled water from the building will be warmed by the earth.
  • College Center parking lot — A geothermal field is being installed under the lot as part of the North Building’s new geothermal heating, ventilation and cooling system. A significant portion of the lot is being resurfaced. The new lot will feature bioswales and rain gardens that will soak up and clean rain water, instead of allowing it to wash into surrounding waterways. Faculty and students will use the green environments to study biodiversity and other topics. The work also calls for increasing green space and improving traffic flow.
  • A.J. Theisen/Main Building parking lot — The lot is being resurfaced and expanded slightly. The new lot will feature bioswales and improved traffic flow.
  • Main Building — Storm water drains in the Main Building roof drain system are being separated from sewer drains.
  • Fine Arts Building — Pilings are being added to address floor foundations in limited areas around the theatre.
  • Clara E. Mackenzie Building — Most windows in the building are being replaced.
The construction projects are being paid for through part of the college’s operating millage, which was renewed by voters in 2007.
