SC4 enhances accounting degree program

St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron has enhanced its accounting associate degree program to reflect the latest standards used and trends followed by businesses and organizations.

The curriculum changes, which will begin with fall semester 2010 classes, are designed to better provide students with employable skills.

The program will prepare students to obtain accounting jobs in a variety of industries in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger processing, managerial accounting and payroll.

The changes include:
  • Adding two newly developed courses — Computerized Accounting and Computerized Payroll Accounting.
  • Adding Business Math as a required course.
  • Adding College Accounting as a required course and a prerequisite to Principles of Accounting I. The course, previously called Office Accounting, was renamed and reduced from four credits to three.
  • Removing Intermediate Accounting I and II as required courses. Classes still will be offered for students in a transfer program.

Students who previously selected the accounting program from the College Catalog can choose to complete their degree following the old program or can elect to switch to the new curriculum.

Registration is open for fall classes that begin Aug. 23. To register, visit www.sc4.edu/wave or call (810) 989-5500. For accounting program details, call the SC4 Business Administration Department at (810) 989-5575.
