SC4 offering new transportation, distribution, logistics classes

St. Clair County Community College’s Workforce Training Institute is offering several new transportation, distribution and logistics classes this spring on the college’s Port Huron campus.

The sessions each run several days, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and offer continuing education credits. The classes are designed to advance skills in technologies used in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, retail, security and supply chain industries.

SC4’s transportation, distribution and logistics project was funded by a grant awarded under the Community Based Job Training Grants, implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.

The offerings include:
  • Introduction to Electrical/Electronic Concepts and Measurements, Wednesday, April 28, to Monday, May 3 — Students will learn conceptual basics of electricity and electronics and how they are used in technology applications. Learn equipment application and how to interpret measurements with regard to specific engineering technology applications.
  • Introduction to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Tuesday, May 4, to Thursday, May 6 — The use of radio identification tags is common in major corporations. This course will look at use cases in the pharmaceutical, retail, manufacturing, supply chain and security industries.
  • MSSC Certified Logistics (CLA/CLT), Thursday, May 13, to Wednesday, May 19 — Gain the Manufacturing Skills Standards Certification that is based upon industry-defined, nationally validated standards for shipping and receiving. Individuals will be assessed for two credentials: the foundational-level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) Certification and mid-level Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) Certification.
