SC4 offers new seminars for early child care teachers

St. Clair County Community College’s Workforce Training Institute will offer three new child care seminars this spring on the Port Huron campus.

The Saturday classes are designed for early child care teachers and teacher assistants and offer continuing education credits. Three different seminars will be offered. Each class runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Cost for each seminar is just $59 and includes lunch.

Courses include:
  • Nuts and Bolts of Child Care I, Saturday, May 1 — The class will provide participants with communication skills needed when interacting with children and parents. Students also will gain knowledge related to early child care contracts and policies, as well as purchasing, staffing and licensing requirements.
  • Nuts and Bolts of Child Care II, Saturday, May 8 — This class will focus on the developmental needs of children. Participants will learn components of the preschool curriculum, methods for guiding children’s behavior, and how to structure circle time and music activities.
  • Nuts and Bolts of Child Care III, Saturday, May 15 — This class will provide early child care teachers with tools to turn the outdoors into an extension of their classroom. The training also will identify multiple ways of developing literacy in children.
